During the night of 2000 April 06 to 07 the northern lights could be observed
from Germany and even from Austria. This is a rare event in these latitudes.
For those of you, who slept during that night, I did a couple of photographs.
The best of these photos are presented here on the internet.
Short description of the technical details:
Camera: Canon FT QL
Lens: Canon MF 50mm 1:1.8 at f/2.8
Film: Kodak Elite Chrome 400 ASA color slide film
Exposure times: mostly arround 30 seconds
Location: Mainz-Bretzenheim (49.98°north, 8.23°east)
The aurora borealis occured in 3 substorms that night:
1. phase: ca. 20:30 - 21:00 UTC (not observed by myself)
2. phase: ca. 21:30 - 22:30 UTC (red and green patsches)
3. phase: ca. 23:15 - 01:30 UTC (same as phase 2 but with yellow beams)
Ok, here are my pictures.
It is selection of my photo series with a few comments.
