A weak auroral display occured during the night of 2002 November 26./27. It
was caused by the arrival of a shockfront in the solar wind on the same evening.
The corresponding coronal mass ejection left the northeast quadrant of the sun
2 days earlier at a speed of 1000km/s after the eruption of a solar filament.
As has been many times before, the weather in form of ground fog obscured the
free sight of the weak display deep on the horizon.
But higher in the sky many Taurid meteors could be observed during the whole
night.
The aurora borealis came in 2 waves during this event, with a weak glow and
a few rays being visible for a couple of minutes:
1. phase: 23:17 - 23:19 UTC
2. phase: 23:56 - 23:58 UTC
Here are my pictures, all taken near Daun (50.2°north, 6.8°east).
