SYNOPTICAL INFORMATION
----------------------

** Middle Latitude Auroral Activity WARNING is Active at 18:00 UTC 15 July **
** Low Latitude Auroral Activity WATCH is Active at 18:00 UTC 15 July **

A major solar proton flare was observed today. It was associated with a
high velocity Earth-directed coronal mass ejection that is expected to
potentially vigorously impact the Earth anytime near or after 18:00 UTC on
15 July. This disturbance is expected to produce periods of major to severe
auroral storming that may become visible throughout much of the United
States, Canada, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Even extreme southern
Africa may spot periods of activity.

The disturbance is expected to last 24 to 36 hours with post-storm
residual activity extending possible middle latitude sightings through the
48 hour mark (if a big storm materializes).

This is a significant event that has the potential of being one of the
largest storms to be observed this solar cycle. Refer to our Middle Latitude
Auroral Activity Warning for additional details.

Predicted 3-Day Auroral Indices (15 July to 17 July): 60, 100, 50

AURORAL ACTIVITY SIGHTINGS AS OF 14/2355 UTC
