Aurora above Germany
In the year 2000 the sun reached the maximum of her 11-year activity cycle (cycle 23).
This led, besides other effects, that after strong eruptions on the sun, northern
lights or the aurora borealis became visible in Germany.
Since these days I started to learn more about the aurora and the solar-terrestrial
connections.
On the following pages I present my pictures of the auroral displays I was able
to observe in Germany.
The subpages with pictures of the different events can be reached by clicking
the diagrams. These diagrams show the planetary geomagnetic index or Kp-index,
which has to reach a high value to make observations of the aurora possible
in mid latitutde regions.
The latest images from solar cycle 24 are only available as folder named by the date
of the individual event.
Now, have fun while looking at the pictures of one of the most beautiful celestial
phenomenon on planet earth.
Any comment in my guestbook is very much appreciated.
